Why do you feel that Hylomar threadlockers are the best on the market?
Hylomar threadlockers were reformulated in 2005 as part of a UK "SMART Grant" to foster innovation and research. Our threadlockers have been upgraded with the newest technologies. Our competitors are locked into formulations by their OEM specifications, which would be very expensive to amend and repeat the testing.
Secondly, Hylomar makes its threadlockers in small batches, and tests each and every batch. We achieve a consistency in our cure times and breakaway torques with far less variance than our competition. Our most demanding customers - engine rebuilders - who are using used parts with the biggest wear issues - report fewer leakers and lower warranty costs when using our products.
What is the shelf life for your thread lockers? Can I use the product after the use by date?
The stated shelf life is two years from the date of manufacturer - which can be taken from the batch number printed on the bottle. However, if stored in a cool place, this product can last up to 5 years. Furthermore, the principal issue with older thread lockers is delayed cure times. Strength is seldom the issue. As a general rule, if it fully cures, it will function ok. Having said that, we always recommend testing a sample first.
To test, simply apply the product on a bolt or screw. If it cures to an acceptable strength (check with a torque wrench) withiin an acceptable time, it can be used without hesitation.
