Universal Blue Non-Setting Sealants

Hylomar Universal Blue is a polyester polyurethane polymer that is applied as a thin film on flat machined surfaces to form a non-setting seal. It does not go hard, it does not cure, and it resists high temperatures (up to 350C / 600F and is tolerant to many fluids and gasses, including oils, fuels, CFCs, coolants, etc. Hylomar Universal Blue comes in several grades and viscosities, depending on its purpose, including Aerograde PL-32, Univeral Blue, RF, Racing Formula, Advanced Formula (AF), and as an Aerosol.

Hylomar Universal Blue - How it Works

Hylomar Universal Blue is a non-setting sealant. It doesn't go hard. It remains permanently tacky, even when heated to 500F or in the presence of fuels, oils, and other chemicals. If pulled apart, it "reheals" itself. It only fills small gaps (0.2 mm)- it is meant for flat machined metal surfaces.

Hylomar AF 85g

Hylomar AF, for Advanced Formulation, is a non-solvented version of Hylomar Universal Blue, which is used primarily in locations where solvents are not appropriate. Hylomar AF uses a high boiling point ester to replace standard solvents, which results in a putty that stays more "runny" and does not set up as much as standard Universal Blue.

AF resists higher temperatures (over 500F) longer than standard solvented Universal Blue. The high viscosity version has more gap filling capability, although it is still limited to approximately 0.4 mm. Its adhesion is slightly reduced.
